Das Kino Custody

French actor, scriptwriter and filmmaker Xavier Legrand’s first feature Custody explodes onto the screens, picking up the Silver Lion at the 74th Venice International Film Festival for Best Director and Best First Feature.

An unstable family story as gripping as it is authentic with unsentimental realism in its approach to an electrifying drama.

The custody battle at the heart of this story is between Miriam (Léa Drucker) and Antoine (Denis Ménochet). In the film’s opening scenes we see the courtroom drama unfold, with Miriam pushing for sole custody of their son, who is unwilling witness to the testimony of his fathers past abuses.

Carefully and gracefully directed with intense, restrained performances throughout, this is a powerful, human scale reminded of the horrors of the home.
